describe the imageSeptember 16th through the 20th is National Staffing Employee Week (NSEW), a time to recognize the hard work and valuable contributions that temporary and contract employees make working at firms ranging from small to large and encompassing all industries. I want to thank the many people who we have placed in contract positions this past year for trusting us with a part of your career and, in fact, an important part of your life. As you all probably know, I have been contemplating the staffing industry as a whole and ATR’s place in it quite a bit over the last few weeks as we prepared to celebrate 25 years in business (ATR International Celebrates 25 Years). I am happy to repeat myself when I say that putting people to work is one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences and it is a privilege to be in this business; the fact that NSEW falls right after our anniversary celebration seems only fitting!

There are 2.91 million men and women employed by the staffing industry each day contributing to the overall health of our economy and the growth and success of individual businesses. Temporary and contract work provides a variety of benefits to individuals and companies alike. Consider that

· 88% of staffing employees say that temporary or contract work made them more employable.

· 77% of staffing employees say it’s a good way to obtain a permanent job.

· 80% of staffing clients say staffing firms offer a good way to find people who can become permanent employees

· 90% of staffing companies provide free training to their temporary and contract employees

· 65% of staffing employees say they developed new or improved work skills through their assignments

· 64% of staffing employees report that their work gives them the scheduling flexibility and the time for family that they desire.

· 23% of staffing employees have little or no interest in a permanent job

· 90% of client businesses say staffing companies give them flexibility to keep fully staffed during busy times

These survey numbers underscore the benefits but sometimes business can seem like it is all a numbers game: the bottom line, headcount, unemployment, GDP, this or that percentage, etc. It is important to remember that at the heart of our economy are people, not numbers, not statistics. It is individual people doing their work every day that makes business run and our society work whether they are full or part time, permanent or contract. A diverse and flexible work force model is a benefit to both employees and companies. It is absolutely fitting that we take time to honor the contributions of this sector of our workforce and I join with ASA and my fellow staffing company colleagues in celebrating their achievements!

P.S. ASA named an IT contractor as its employee of the year! Take a moment to check out the story.
