With this in mind, our Employee Spotlight series is offering a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make our ATR family great. This month, Angelique Alvarez, Chief Diversity Relations Officer, is taking us backstage to learn more about life at ATR.
1. Briefly describe your ATR journey.
I have had the privilege of being a part of the ATR family for the past nine years. Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to explore various roles and gain a great understanding of what we do, why we do it, and whose lives we are changing. I have witnessed all that ATR puts into being a great company for the benefit of our clients, our community, and our contingent workers. From starting off at our front desk, to recruiting internally to identify talent that fit the ATR culture for our growing offices, to branding ATR and being a part of our marketing team, to building relationships with the minority business community and future clients, I’ve been shown that with dedication and hard work, there is always opportunity to grow alongside ATR.
2. What is your top piece of advice for clients, candidates, or those who are new to the staffing industry?
Staffing isn’t really a job that one may think of when growing up – I am sure some of you didn’t even know what staffing was at one point. I can tell you firsthand that it is such a rewarding career to be in. We have the opportunity to touch lives and impact people with the one thing so vital to their story: their careers.
3. What has been your proudest moment at ATR?
One of the proudest moments working here was after working with a close team on an award application where we were chosen as one of the five national winners (out of over 12,000 companies). It is one thing to feel proud to work for a company and know all that we do, but it’s another to see that others also recognize that work.
4. What is your funniest ATR memory?
One of my funniest memories was during my second year when I was college recruiting. I came across a good-looking resume and called a great potential candidate for an internal position for one of our offices across the state, only for it to be someone I had already interviewed who had just been hired. She answered the phone and listened to my spiel and politely let me know she was already in the office filling out new hire paperwork. I guess you know a good fit when you see it!
5. What piece of career or life advice would you give your younger self?
Well, I would like to still consider myself my younger self (wink). As I learn how vital it is to mentor and have a mentor, I would have told myself to identify a team of career coaches and find a way to give what I’ve learned to girls who need that little piece of advice and push. I guess it’s time to start doing so!
6. What’s one thing about you that would surprise the rest of the ATR team?
I have a huge heart for pit bulls; if I had the opportunity to have a lot of land, (kind of hard to do living in Silicon Valley) I would most likely fill it with rescues and give them a second chance at life!
7. ATR has now been in business for 30 years. Where do you think you (and ATR!) will be 30 years from now?
I have seen so much growth and change over the past decade and with Andrea as the future of ATR, I am excited to see her journey and vision for the company. As technology also changes, I am sure there will be new opportunities for us implement it in our business. I can see myself in 30 years talking to new hires and telling the stories that start with “back in my day.”
