We appreciate the dedication of our employees over the years and wanted to showcase one of our longest tenured employees at the company, who has played a crucial part in our success. Our dedicated team has been central to the business over this time, and we are so thankful for their support. Wendy Sun, ATR’s Vice President of Recruiting is giving us an inside look into her life and work at ATR. 

1. Briefly describe your ATR journey.

My career with ATR started 23 years ago as a Manufacturing Recruiter. Over this time, I have worked my way through many different roles in the company, allowing me exposure to recruiting, sales, on-site work, marketing and now management. My time at ATR has taught me a great deal about the staffing world and it has been such a rewarding experience to be a part of. Having started out with just 10 employees, it has been amazing watching the company grow to a nationwide level with multiple offices.

2. What do you love most about your job?

I love working on the ATR team and helping mentor new recruiters, the people here are awesome!

3. What is your favorite thing to do in your hometown?

Being from Northern California, there are so many different activities to take part in! I love trying out all the different restaurants and cuisines. With Napa Valley nearby, wine tasting has always been a fun time. There are so many different hiking trails for outdoor adventures, and I always love bringing my family out to the beaches in Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. I love doing all of these things with my family!

4. What is your top piece of advice for clients, candidates, or those who are new to the staffing industry?

For Clients: Act fast! We are in a highly competitive market today, and good candidates are never on the job market for very long so act quickly!

For Candidates: Be honest about your skills and interests; even if you don’t have all the skills that a job is asking for; Be honest about your skillset and always express your desire to learn.

For those new to Staffing: Those new to the staffing industry should spend time speaking with a recruiter to gain valuable information on how best to work within the industry. Whether you are a candidate or a client, the stronger your relationship is with a recruiter, the more time and energy the recruiter will spend working with you to help find the right job or the right candidate for the role.

5. What has been your proudest moment at ATR?

I’ve had several proud moments here, but each one of them was related to being given an opportunity even though I may not have had the right past experience. This includes moments such as being promoted to onsite to oversee the KLA instruments managed service program even though I had only been at the company for 6 months. At one point, I was given the opportunity for promotion to a Technical Recruiting Manager, even though I didn’t have any past experience in it. Eventually I was presented with the opportunity to manage Recruiting operations at ATR even though others had more knowledge of the industry and experience than I did. These were very proud moments for me, and I was grateful to know that ATR had faith in my abilities.

6. One piece of life or career advice I’d give to a mentee?

The Staffing industry twists and turns like a roller coaster – there are lots of ups and downs involved in the journey. It’s only natural because we are dealing with an unpredictable product, people! When you’re feeling frustrated, don’t give up – persist through the challenging times because it is extremely rewarding when you know that you are making a direct impact in someone’s life by helping them find the right career or making a valuable contribution towards a business by finding them the right person for the job.
